Welcome to Eurogear

All Eurogear’s Couplings are purpose-designed to totally replace the traditional tail-bar couplings, and negate all their bad features. They cannot generate or transmit any thrust or bending moments, and can end-collapse sufficiently to protect the mill and gearbox in the event of a transverse shaft-break.

Design

All Eurogear’s Couplings are purpose-designed to totally replace the traditional tail-bar couplings, and negate all their bad features. They cannot generate or transmit any thrust or bending moments, and can end-collapse sufficiently to protect the mill and gearbox in the event of a transverse shaft-break.

Eurogear’s current coupling designs are virtually MAINTENANCE-FREE. Note-however, it is necessary to restore shaft-squares to original dimensions prior to installing a Eurogear coupling, but thereafter no maintenance should ever be required.

History of Coupling Development

Eurogear was the first company in the world, in 1986, to design and patent a practical, economical and simple alternative to the conventional “ Tail-Bar” coupling, that eliminates ALL of the undesirable features of the Tail-Bar.

Known worldwide as the EUROGEAR “ROPE” coupling, because it utilizes Steel-Wire-Ropes to transfer torque, it has saved customers countless Dollars in reduced operating costs and downtime. However steel-wire-rope couplings have not proved suitable for handling excessive misalignment continuously.

Currently the Steel-Wire-Rope Coupling has been superseded by a “Polyester-Sling” version. It is based on the same principle of operation and is of similar size to the SWR Coupling, but has already proved to be infinitely superior with respect to both misalignment capability AND life of the flexible members. When they do require replacing, the polyester-slings are considerably cheaper than steel-wire-ropes. While earlier versions of this Coupling had back-up slings installed, the latest designs utilize heavy-duty turn-buckles to pre-tension the slings, as back-up for the slings, and as a reversing mechanism.

Eurogear has also recently extended its Patented MK VI Industrial-Coupling range for driving any size of sugar-mill in the world. A big advantage of this design is it’s more compact dimensions, that allow personnel-access through the coupling area during operations. The extreme flexibility of this design also permits mill-roller removal without having to dismantle the coupling, making it very user-friendly. See Link Coupling

This latest tubular construction design is cheaper to manufacture and use simple bushed links to transfer torque.

All Eurogear Couplings incorporate shear-pin over-torque protection.

Currently there are nearly 2000 Couplings of Eurogear design or derivatives installed in some 25 countries.
